The Organization

Litchfield Performing Arts (LPA), a not-for-profit dedicated to the arts and arts education, seeks summer interns each year to help run the Litchfield Jazz Festival in Goshen, CT. Be a part of an internationally recognized Festival! These internships will provide real-life experience in major event coordination, handling contracts, managing personnel, leadership and much more. Interns are a core part of our team.

The Litchfield Jazz Festival, which The Wall Street Journal said, “stands tall in substance among the larger festivals around the nation” was founded in 1996. The Litchfield Jazz Camp, featured in TIME Magazine and on CNN, hosts 350+ students from all over the United States, Bermuda, Thailand, Japan, Mexico and England at the Canterbury School in New Milford.

Positions are unpaid, college credit possible. Interns Needed: Mid-May through August. Location: Goshen, CT

Required Education, Experience and Skills

All applicants must…

  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Be a college student or within six months post-graduation; college credit is available.
  • Be customer-service oriented and diplomatic.
  • Be capable of taking direction and working independently.
  • Have the ability to create high quality work within tight deadlines.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have strong organizational skills, including prioritizing and multi-tasking.

Volunteer Coordinator Intern (Full time)

Start Date: May 29, 2017

End Date: August 11, 2017

The Volunteer Coordinator Intern will be responsible for the full management (recruiting, scheduling, training, and overseeing on-site) of 100+ volunteers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain volunteer applications, schedules, and other paperwork.
  • Communicate local school administration, local businesses, colleges, civic organizations, youth groups, and churches to encourage referrals of potential volunteers.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for volunteers.
  • Review policies and procedures for issues related to volunteers and update as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain procedural and training materials, and the LPA volunteer database.
  • Monitor volunteers’ performance and satisfaction and provide ongoing training and support as needed.
  • Assist with Litchfield Jazz Festival Program Book ad sales as needed.

Special Events / Artist Coordinator Intern (Full time)

Start Date: May 29, 2017

End Date: August 11, 2017

Position Summary

The Special Events / Artist Coordinator Intern will be responsible for the full management of our food vendors and up to 28 craft vendors in addition to performing artist scheduling and hospitality suite management.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute and maintain vendor applications, contracts, and health paperwork.
  • Work directly with our Special Events Coordinator and Development Officer to coordinate the Festival Sunday Jazz Brunch fundraisers.
  • Act as a liaison between Litchfield Jazz Festival and vendors and Festival artists
  • Review policies and procedures for issues related to vendors, prepare and maintain procedural and training materials.
  • Arrange and manage artist catering before and during the event.
  • Coordinate and monitor timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
  • On-site (Festival) management of vendors and artists including monitoring vendors’ performance and satisfaction and provide ongoing training and support as needed.
  • Recruit and manage college fair participants for The Litchfield Jazz Camp.

Festival Technical Assistant (Part time)

Start Date: June 26, 2017

End Date: August 11, 2017

Position Summary

The Festival Technical Assistant will work in conjunction with Festival Technical Director on general Festival operations including following up on contracts, deliver and pickup details, and more.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with Festival Technical Director on general Festival operations.
  • May work with other interns on projects.
  • Assists in general office tasks.
  • Serves as an apprentice in assigned functions.

Media Intern (Part time)

Start Date: July 3, 2017

End Date: August 11, 2017

Position Summary

The Media Intern will be responsible for the full production, editing, and direction of photographs and video clips to be used by Litchfield Performing Arts throughout the year.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Take photos and video footage of Litchfield Jazz Camp and Litchfield Jazz Festival events and people as needed.
  • Edit photos and/or create illustrations for various media, including printed marketing collateral, advertising, social media and web use.
  • Produce, direct, and edit a short informative video to be used as an advertisement for the Litchfield Jazz Camp.
  • Routinely interact with various team members, campers, and musicians at different professional levels.

Litchfield Jazz Camp Internships (Summer 2017)

Interested in music education? Learn from the administrative staff at one of the best music camps in the county.  Tasks include assiting with registration and check-out, helping with daily check-ins at morning and evening meetings, talking with camp parents and helping manage the day-to-day of a busy camp environment.

Position: Camp Office Intern

Position is Unpaid. On-site Room & Board Provided. College Credit possible.
Beginning: July 2017
Location: New Milford, CT

This internship will provide real-life experience in administration and organization of one of the nation’s leading summer music camps. Work will include assisting with student registration, assorted office tasks, generating and formatting reports, working with Excel documents, viewing and manipulating the online student database, and assisting in the organization and set-up of all of the music equipment. Our office relies heavily and places an emphasis on the use of technology to administrate the camp as efficiently as possible. You will have hands-on experience learning advanced Excel/Word features as well as a chance to learn Filemaker Pro. Our office always maintains a very informal atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Fully versed in Microsoft office (Word, Excel), and general computer use
  • Valid US Driver’s License (A car is recommended, but not required) 
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Proactive 
  • Reliable & Responsible
  • Works well both independently and in a team atmosphere

All applicants must provide a cover letter, resume, and three references. 

Schedule & Compensation:
Applicants must be able to work Sunday-Friday, and some Saturdays. Office hours tend to be 9:00AM – 6PM, but some days may require additional work. The internship will begin the first week of July and will conclude by August 9th. Dormitory housing and all meals are provided. Full admittance to the Litchfield Jazz Festival which occurs at the end of the camp is also included.

Location:
Our camp and camp office is located on the campus of the Canterbury School in New Milford Connecticut. The office is air-conditioned. There will be opportunities at camp for leisure as well as the astounding performances every night by our camp faculty.
