Albert Rivera is one of the busiest saxmen in the New York metro area and beyond, fitting 150+ gigs a year around a busy teaching and mentoring schedule. He has served as Operations Director of Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2005 and regularly appears on the Camp and Festival stages. His collaborators have included Don Braden, Jimmy Greene, Claudio Roditi, Avery Sharpe, Rachel Z, and Junior Mance, to name a few. He often appears with his own group and with Litchfield Jazz Camp faculty stars including Matt Wilson, Paul Bollenback, Luques Curtis, Zaccai Curtis (2025 GRAMMY Winner), Nicole Zuraitis (2024/25 GRAMMY Winner) and Dave Stryker.
Albert is proud to be a mentor to many budding jazz musicians and regularly provides performance opportunities for them. He has served as a faculty member at SUNY Purchase College and as the creator of several Arts Residencies, serves on the committee that creates the education component of the Berks Jazz Fest in Berks PA (called GetJazzed) & as a clinician and performer. At Miami Arts Charter School and at Warwick Academy, Bermuda, he is a visiting clinician. He also serves as a clinician for the Jazz Education Network’s Jeneration Jazz Festival, instructing students from across the country.
Rivera has earned numerous accolades, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, a Chamber Music America Residency Grant, and a New York City Artist Corp Grant. Known for his mastery of soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, he was hailed as “a modern Jazz Messenger” by critic Hartford Courant Owen McNally.
