  • Project Poetry Live! Public Performance 2015

    Each year professional poets, artists, musicians, and dancers work with 800 middle and high school students in three Hartford area schools. The 7th graders write poetry and then transform their words into music at the hands of professional saxophonist and composer, Albert Rivera, set designs under the guidance of regional artist and educator, Lydia Huebenthal, and work with community artists translating their words into other art forms.     Project Poetry Live! (PPL!), is about to celebrate its 18th year. The Litchfield Performing Arts founded program, was established in the ‘90s by Executive & Artistic Director, Vita West Muir, with the vision of giving children the opportunity to interact with peers of different cultural backgrounds in a professional arts environment. Each year PPL! brings professional artists, poets, dancers and musicians together with some 1,200 middle and high school students from five Connecticut school districts (Litchfield, Plymouth, Thomaston, Waterbury and Watertown) at no cost to the students. has now affected a generation of students. Founded in 1995, PPL brings professional poets, artists, musicians, and dancers into five Connecticut school districts to work with 1,100 middle and high school students every year.  See the culmination of this year-round project on Friday, June 4th where students will dance, play in the jazz band, display their murals, have their poetry read and their art displayed.  Then enjoy a professional performance by the Matthew Westerby Company, who has been teaching our students for weeks prior to this performance.
